A week late I want to write about my experience of watching the new Sci-Fi movie 'Monsters'. I got its attention walking by a movie theatre with the a reference to 'Cloverfield' on its poster - a movie which had me excited as well (me being one of those still not seen 'Blair Witch Project' or any immediate spin offs).
I had read a few tidbits of preliminary information about the movie - I've learned that the less I know about any movie I'm interested in, the more I can enjoy watching it. And for this movie I highly recommend going to see it without expectations. Hardly any would be met, but I advise only people to watch it if you're interested in seeing some scenes of a world, rather than a story.
Not to spoil is difficult if it's spoiling. Still, after the credits rolled I heard one mock: "Ok, and now the movie starts." You could think a bit like the movie where that couple of sea divers got forgotten in the middle of the ocean - its name just slipped my mind.
Of all the things the music stood out the most for me, even after the first tunes (rather: sounds, it wasn't necessarily musical all times) I was in awe that it's not the standard movie-esque orchestral. I believe I once stumbled over a comment of someone music (or movie?) related complaining that every blockbuster only has orchestral scores.
I liked the style immediately and it felt somehow familiar. Only when the credits rolled I had to read the entry twice to realize: "Music: Jon Hopkins". I knew I'd want to get the sound track.
